Qui serve qualche strizzacervelli che mi tolga 'sto tarlo dalla testa.
Perchè tutti, a prescindere da età, sesso, razza, ceto sociale, non resistono a non schiacciare una cupola o a non spingere un cono? Anche quelli che non hanno alcuna idea di cosa sia un altoparlante!
Ieri ero in giro con le mie figlie, alle quali chiaramente non interessa un beneamato dell'hifi e della passione del papà; vedo un negozio di hifi e, povere loro, ce le trascino dentro...
All'ingresso solita raccomandazione, a muso duro: "non toccate niente!!!"
Ebbene mentre gongolavo e mi crogiolavo tra qualche elettronica, ti becco la grande con l'indice su un tweeter e la piccola che, con aria innocente, stava beatamente testando la cedevolezza delle sospensioni di un woofer. Lancio un'occhiata a tutte e due che vale più di mille parole e me ne esco di corsa, dopo essermi sincerato che non avessero recato danni...
Insomma, è possibile che questi benedetti altoparlanti attirino come calamite (il magnete c'è, ma sta dietro e non dovrebbe essere coinvolto...) mani e dita di chiunque? Perchè qualsiasi persona entri in casa mia, e non sa nemmeno cosa significhi stereo, mi tocca gli altoparlanti se poco poco mi dimentico di rimetterci le griglie?
Che c'è di mezzo, qualcosa tipo "il ricordo del seno materno", "simbologia sessuale"... che risposte avete?

I need a shrink here to get this out of my head.
Why can’t anybody, regardless of age, sex, race, social class, resist from crushing a speaker or pushing a cone driver? Even those who have no idea about what a speaker is!
Yesterday I was with my daughters, who definitely couldn’t care less of the hi-fi world and daddy’s passion; I see a hi-fi shop and poor them, I drag them in...
At the entrance the usual strict reminder: "do not touch anything!!!"
Well, whilst I was gloating and basking in some electronics, I caught the big one with a forefinger on a tweeter and the little one who with an innocent air, was blissfully testing the physical resistance of a woofer suspension. I give them an eye worthy of a thousand words and we rush out of the shop, after making sure they didn’t cause any damage.
Long story short, is it possible that these damn speakers attract like magnets (the magnet is there, but it is behind and should not be involved...) anyone's hands and fingers? Why does everybody who does not even know what a stereo is keep coming to my house and touch my speakers if only I forget to put the grids back on?
What's the deal, something like “the memory of mother's breast”, “sexual symbology”... any answers?

Semplicemente una curiosità per il movimento meccanico del woofer. Per il tweeter, la mente dei bimbi l'associa spesso ad un campanello da suonare ripetutamente. O forse solo la curiosità di capire come possano quei due cosi produrre la musica. Almeno, queste le curiosità che animano le persone che ho conosciute e che forse restano male quando vengono a casa mia, acoltano e dopo mezz'ora mi chiedono dove ho nascosto gli altoparlanti. Non capiscono che le Maggies non hanno funzione estetica.

A simple curiosity for the mechanical movement of the woofer. Concerning the tweeter, the minds of children often associate it with a bell being played repeatedly. Or maybe just the curiosity to understand how those two things can produce music. At least, these are the curiosities that animate the people I have met and who perhaps get upset when they come to my house, listen to something and after half an hour they ask me where I hid the speakers. They do not understand that the Maggies have no aesthetic function.

Buona per il tweeter questa del campanello, non ci avevo pensato.
Ecco perché la Vifa il suo lo ha chiamato "ring radiator"... e poi lo ha fatto in modo che non si può schiacciare un bel niente!!! Anzi se provi a schiacciarlo ti pungi. Che diavoli 'sti danesi!

This bell thing, about the tweeter, sounds legit; I hadn’t thought of it.
That's why Vifa called theirs “ring radiator”... and then they built it so that no one can crush anything! In fact if you try to crush it, you’re going to sting yourself. Bloody Danish!

Uno dei post più divertenti, ma altrettanto significativi che abbia mai letto! Complimenti!!!
Sì, credo che nelle rotondità ci sia qualcosa di atavico, un'attrazione misteriosa scritta da sempre nel DNA.
E, d'altra parte, anche sul piano strettamente scientifico la "circolarità" ritorna sempre: secondo te, è solo un caso che il numero "pi greco" compaia in tutte le relazioni fondanti della letteratura scientifica?
L'episodio che hai narrato mi ha riportato indietro di un quarto di secolo.
C'era questo mio cugino che aveva da poco acquistato un impianto stereo - uno di quelli belli che però oggi non ci interesserebbe affatto.
Quando me lo mostrò, mi limitai a guardare senza troppo interesse, ma ricordo che non appena tolse le griglie di protezione dai diffusori (una coppia di mitiche Wharfedale...), l'adrenalina schizzò letteralmente nelle mie vene ed il mio dito indice andò a premere, inarrestabile, uno dei tweeter.
Mio cugino, che è sempre stato di stazza ragguardevole, esplose al modo dell'incredibile Hulk, al punto che credetti che mi avrebbe defenestrato...
"Non c'è problema", gli risposi io con un filo di voce. "Ora riparo tutto".
Pensavo di tirare indietro la piccola cupola con qualche mezzo non invasivo, invece lui, troppo annebbiato per ragionare, la riportò fuori ...bucandola con uno spillo!!!

Per fortuna le sue orecchie non notarono cambiamenti nel suono - allora nessuno cercava finezze tipo consistenza della grana, ampiezza della scena, ecc. ecc. ecc.
Però giurò vendetta.
Oggi, che siamo entrambi cresciutelli, ogni volta che si trova nei paraggi dei miei diffusori mi dice: "Non è che potremmo togliere le griglie"? Ma in fondo è un buono, lo dice solo per vedermi sudare freddo!

Yes, I believe that in roundness there is something ancestral, a mysterious attraction embedded in DNA.
And also, even on a strictly scientific level “circularity” always returns: do you think it is only by chance that the “pi” number appears in all the founding connections of scientific literature?
The episode you told took me a quarter of a century back in time.
There was this cousin of mine who had recently bought a stereo system - one of those beautiful ones that we wouldn’t be interested in today.
When he showed it to me, I just looked at it without too much interest, but I remember that as soon as he removed the protection grids from the speakers (a pair of mythical Wharfedale...), all the adrenaline literally shot into my veins and unstoppably my index finger went to press one of the tweeters.
My cousin, who has always been of considerable size, exploded into the incredible Hulk. I thought he was going to throw me out of the window...
“No problem”, I mumbled, “I can repair everything now.”
I thought of pulling back the little tweeter driver with some non-invasive means, instead he, too angry to think, took it out... by piercing it with a pin!!!

Luckily his ears did not notice any changes in the sound - then no one was looking for subtleties such as grain consistency, width of the scene, etc. etc. etc.
But he swore revenge.
Today, as both grown-ups, every time I find him in the vicinity of my speakers, he tells me: “Couldn’t we please remove the grids?” But he’s a good guy, he says it just to see me sweat!

Quando mio figlio era piccolo ogni tanto voleva ascoltare "Pierino e il lupo" e si lasciava trasportare così tanto dalla narrazione di Benigni e dalla musica da credere che dentro i diffusori fosse davvero presente il lupo cattivo...finchè un giorno, preso dalla storia infilò i diti dentro gli altoparlanti delle casse che facevo suonare senza griglia e schiacciò irrimediabilmente le cupoline. Dopo il successivo taglio delle dita non si è più azzardato (SCHERZO neturalmente)...

When my son was a kid he wanted to listen to “Pierino e il lupo”. He was so carried away by Benigni’s narration and the music that he believed that bad wolf was actually hiding inside the speakers... Until one day he was so convinced that he stuck his fingers inside the cones of the speakers that I used to keep without any protection and damaged the drivers permanently. After the subsequent cutting off of all of his fingers, he could not be of harm anymore (KIDDING obviously)...

Io i diffusori li ho nella cameretta. Sinceramente mi sento male a pensare alla gente che ha l'impianto in sala, dove c'entra gente di ogni tipo.
Quando viene la donna delle pulizie metto rigorosamente la griglia.
Il woofer non lo si rovina se lo si tocca (non con le unghie però) da spento.
Sarà che il tweeter ricorda un capezzolo?

I keep the speakers in my bedroom. I honestly feel sick thinking about the people who have them in the living room, where any kind of people come and go.
When the cleaning lady comes I strictly put on the protection grids.
The woofer does not break if you touch it (not with your fingernails though) when it is turned off.
Is it because the tweeter resembles a nipple?

come non capirvi, il mio fratellino tempo fa creò un piccolo solco nel tweeter delle mie kef dopo qualche mese ha fatto cadere la cassa direttamente a terra e ho dovuto cambiare l'intero uni-q. Adesso bado bene a farlo stare minimo ad un raggio di 50 mt di distanza dai diffusoriicon_smile.gif

I understand you all, a little while ago my little brother created a small furrow in the tweeter of my kef and after some months he dropped the speaker directly on the ground and I had to change the whole uni-q. Now I am very careful to keep him at least 50 meters away from the speakers icon_smile.gif

Prima avevo le Indiana Line e la donna delle pulizie le spostava in continuazione, nonostante le continue lamentele... adesso ho le Tannoy Sensys DC e tutti e dico tutti, si sentono obbligati di provare a staccare il supertweeter... ma che caspita ci troveranno!!?!

Hello everyone.
I used to have an Indiana Line and the cleaning lady moved them all the time, despite my constant complaints... now I have some Tannoy Sensys DC and everyone, and I literally mean everyone, feels obliged to try to unplug the supertweeter ... but what the heck do they find so interesting!!?!

confermo la tendenza dei marmocchi a tastare le cupole, ma lo facevo anch'io, da ragazzino ero affascinato dagli altoparlanti, andavo anche nelle "isole ecologiche" per raccattarli,purtroppo non ho mai trovato tannoy da 15", ne GOTO o ALE in discarica....

I confirm the tendency of brats to touch the cones, but I did too, as a kid I was fascinated by speakers, I also used to go to “rubbish dumps” to pick them up. Unfortunately I never found tannoy 15", nor GOTO or ALE at the landfill....

Che dire..
Un bel giorno, rientrato a casa bramante di ascolto di un bel paio di grosse JBL PRESTATE, trovo il cupolino del centro di un woofer rovinosamente rientrato..
Le ho restituite così, giacchè non era ancora nato il forum VHF dove chiedere come rimediare (leggi tubo dell'aspirapolvere).. :(
Quanto detto sopra è IMHO!

What can I say...
One fine day, returning home craving to listen to a nice pair of big BORROWED JBL, I find the center driver of a woofer completely squashed..
I gave them back as they were, since the VHF forum was not yet born where to ask how to fix (i.e. the tube of the vacuum cleaner) .. :(
What is said above is IMHO!

Io penso che oltre alla curiosità per la rotondità vi sia anche l'attrazione per il gioco di profondità e protuberanze dei woofer e dei tweeter. Anche le dimensioni richiamano alla mente qualcosa di "morbido e naturale".
Si vede che da piccolo ci ho provato anch'io eh?

I reckon that, added to some curiosity about the roundness there is also an attraction for depth and the play of shapes and bumps of woofers and tweeters. even their dimensions are reminiscent of something “soft and natural.”
can you tell that as a child I too tried that myself huh?
And maybe I haven’t fully recovered yet.. icon_smile_shock.gif

Si racconta di una bambina che, in attesa che il nonno finisse la sua conversazione con il titolare del negozio, si prodigasse a schiacciare le cupole di tutti, ma proprio tutti, i diffusori presenti , comprese quelle in diamante, con grande felicità del proprietario.

carissimi.....
2 bambini maschi.....una soluzione:
o ti prendi gli unici diffusori progettati da gente con un sacco di figli....cioè molte delle linn...oppure fai delle modifiche pesanti alle griglie in modo che quando non sei in casa, stai sereno.
Io per esempio....dopo cupole bollate a pugni....e tana dei gormiti "creata nel woofer delle mie dynaudio d'epoca....ho optato per una griglia corazzata...nel senso che sotto il tessuto...ora c'è pure un foglio di acciaio inox....
Va da se che per ascoltare musica devo togliere le griglie.....e per ascoltare le favole usano l'ipod....

Dear all....
2 male kids..... one solution:
either you take the only speakers designed by people with lots of children.... that is, many of the linn ... or you make heavy changes to the grids so that when you’re not at home you don’t have to worry about it.
Me for instance .... after speakers stamped with fists and kicks .... and Gormiti’s lair carved in the woofer of my vintage dynaudios .... I opted for an armored grid ... meaning that under the fabric. .. now there is also a sheet of stainless steel ....
It goes without saying that to listen to music I have to remove the grids ..... and to listen to the fables they use the ipod ....
